Stop by the photo lab, room 1-105, and take a look at some of the ribbons and awards that the summer class earned at the Dakota County Fair in Aug. The special topics summer course called BETTER PICTURES faced the challenge of learning how to take prize winning photographs that would catch the eye of judges and clients alike. The class ran fiveTuesday evenings during July and August, with the grand finale of entering photos in the art contest at the Dakota County Fair. On August 9th, the class visited the fair and surveyed the results. Over 50 images were entered and more than half received ribbons, some multiple ribbons. The 13 students learned how to create and judge the appeal of a photograph and create a rating system to determine how successful an image might be. Composition, capturing the moment, subject strength, and Gestalt photo theory were discussed. The display will be up until mid-Sept.
